Some things never change. And as we get our first glimpses into what The Devil Wears Prada 2 has in store for us, it’s clear Miranda Priestly still has the fashion world in a chokehold.
Meryl Streep, back in her most iconic role, was recently photographed wearing a red gown with an asymmetrical silhouette as part of a Met Gala scene, and it’s every bit as pure high-drama couture as we could hope.
Filming alongside Stanley Tucci at the Museum of Natural History, Streep stepped onto a cerulean carpet in a blazing scarlet taffeta gown.
The dress featured an off-the-shoulder neckline with a sculptural 3D collar tilting dramatically over her left arm, leaving her right shoulder bare. A slim matching belt defined the waist before the skirt spilled into a sweeping train that trailed several feet behind her.
Ruby-and-diamond earrings gave a bit of sparkle, while a matte red lip, smoky shadow, and Priestly’s precision-cut silvery bob sealed the transformation for fashion’s biggest night.
Tucci, reprising his role as Nigel, matched her energy in a black tuxedo layered with a polka-dotted tie and black-and-white striped scarf.
Earlier that day, Streep and Tucci were spotted scoping the set in a far more low-key look. Streep wore a black-and-white checkered button-down, straight-leg black trousers, and a camel trench coat that skimmed mid-calf. Even then, she gave Priestly edge with red satin peep-toe platforms and angular black sunglasses—the most Miranda Priestly accessory of all.
