Matthew Haywood to debut on CBBC after Survivor UK win

This weekend, he will appear live on CBBC for the first time, a milestone he says he has been ‘manifesting’ for years.

Matthew rose to fame after winning BBC One’s Survivor UK and has built a huge following on TikTok with over 249,000 followers.

On Saturday, he will make his debut on Saturday Mash-Up! Live, appearing alongside Steve Backshall on the two-hour CBBC show packed with games, sketches, and slime.

Matthew said: “I grew up watching CBBC, and to actually be on the show is surreal.

“I always wanted to be that person inspiring kids like I was inspired growing up. To now have the chance to do that is just amazing.”

He admitted he feels ‘a bit nervous’ about the live element, especially as he will be juggling live on air, but the excitement outweighs the nerves.

His family, including his grandparents, mam and dad, will be tuning in proudly to watch his big moment.

Matthew laughed: “I think there’s going to be a huge spike of Cumbrians tuning in to watch children’s TV tomorrow!”

His debut marks Matthew’s growing career in TV and content creation, which has already seen him build a huge TikTok following.

Beyond the entertainment, Matthew is passionate about using his platform to inspire young people.

He said: “People might tell you that you can’t do something, but I don’t believe that. I think anything is possible if you’re passionate and true to yourself.

“That’s what I want young people to know – you can be who you want to be.”

His message is particularly aimed at those growing up in Cumbria, where he says opportunities in media and entertainment can sometimes feel far away.

Matthew added: “I want kids here to see that someone from a little place like Seaton can do it too.”

Between his CBBC debut, mental health advocacy, and plans to run the London Marathon next year, Matthew is determined to use every opportunity to give back and encourage others.

He said: “I feel so grateful to be living this dream life, and if I can inspire even one young person to believe in themselves, then it’s all worth it.”
