The most widely followed gauge of market fear and uncertainty was tumbling on Monday, after President Donald Trump struck a more conciliatory tone on China.
The Cboe Volatility Index, or VIX, slid by about 2 points to 19.5 in early trading. Any reading of below 20 tends to indicate relatively low volatility.
“Don’t worry about China, it will all be fine! Highly respected President Xi just had a bad moment,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post late Sunday.
