Marissa Bode, globally recognized for her portrayal of Nessarose in Universal Pictures’ cinematic phenomenon Wicked and its epic conclusion, Wicked: For Good, will join the judging panel at the 2025 Her Universe Fashion Show Presented by Universal. The show kicks off San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) on Thursday, July 24, at 6:00 PM at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Universal Products & Experiences proudly serves as the presenting sponsor. Bode, celebrated for her impactful work as a disability rights advocate, brings her unique perspective to the acclaimed event, known for championing inclusivity, diverse fandoms, and the pinnacle of geek couture fashion. Variety’s Marc Malkin, Senior Editor, Culture and Events, makes his debut on this year’s panel. He joins returning judge Robin Motts, SVP of Hot Topic Merchandising, alongside the triumphant 2024 Her Universe Fashion Show winners, Wes Jenkins and Candice Miller. Award-winning director, writer, and producer Jeremy Merrifield also returns for his third consecutive year as the show’s director, promising another captivating spectacle.
Defying Expectations with Geek Couture
With the previously announced theme of “Defying Fashion: Fashion That Defies Expectations,” the show will spotlight 25 finalists. Each will unveil a one-of-a-kind geek couture design to an anticipated standing-room-only audience. The designs draw inspiration from both Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation franchises, promising a vibrant display of creativity. The judging panel will select one winner, while a fan vote will determine a second. Both winning designers will receive a $2,000 cash prize and an incredible opportunity to design a fashion collection with Her Universe.

Dynamic Duo Returns to Host and Launch New Podcast
Eckstein and Broadway star Michael James Scott reunite to co-host the fashion show for their third consecutive year. The charismatic duo will also host the “Her Universe Fashion Show After Party” on Friday, July 25, from 10-11 AM PDT at the Neil Morgan Auditorium of the San Diego Central Library. This exclusive event will feature a live taping of their newly announced podcast, HypeFriend!
Don’t Miss the Runway Action at the Her Universe Fashion Show!
The show is open to the public. However, advanced wristband distribution is required for entry.
- Wristband Distribution: Wristbands will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10:00 a.m. PT on Thursday, July 24, at the Seaport Ballroom Foyer at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego.
- Line Policy: Attendees may line up before the official distribution time. However, please note that Her Universe does not endorse or manage unofficial lines. Also, Her Universe reserves the right to adjust distribution times and manage lines for safety and fairness.
- Doors Open: Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. PT, unless otherwise noted by the Her Universe Team upon wristband reception and check-in.
- Seating Process: Audience members will be admitted in groups. Upon receiving wristbands, attendees will be informed of their group number and exact return time for seating.
- Show Time: The show will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. PT and is expected to last approximately two hours. Late arrivals, even with wristbands, may not be accommodated.
