Learning about the Finnish fashion design.
Marimekko’s bold designs are easy to spot. The brand brings fun patterns to timeless styles.
Phyllis Fredendall of the Finlandia Foundation has curated a collection of iconic Marimekko dresses at the Finnish American Historical Archive in Hancock, Mich.
“I think for most of us who are non-Finns who grew up in this country, Marimekko was the door that opened contemporary Finland to us,” Fredendall said.
The brand is significant in Finland and has collaborated with other worldwide businesses.
A Marimekko fashion show is scheduled from 12-1 p.m. Saturday in the Tori Nordic Market, which is free to enter. It’s in Pioneer Hall at the DECC.
