Manchester United are still looking for a new forward to add to their ranks, with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee not making strong cases last season.

Ruben Amorim has added Matheus Cunha to help the attack, and he remains keen on Bryan Mbeumo despite two failed bids.

Højlund has been linked with a move away, and United have identified several targets to replace the Dane should he leave.

Amorim is adamant about securing targets who are Premier League-proven, with past signings from other leagues failing to live up to the Premier League standards.

Who has Amorim added to his list of center-forwards?

According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, United have named Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as a target should Højlund leave.

Watkins has been linked with moves to several other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal. Arsenal made a bid for Watkins in January, but Villa were firm on their stance in keeping the forward.

Watkins scored 16 goals in the league this season, and he has scored over 10 goals in all five seasons of his seasons with Villa. United have struggled to find a forward to produce consistently, and Watkins could be the fix for that issue.

Højlund had just four goals in the Premier League, and his potential exit would help fund a move for Watkins, who Villa have valued at around £60m. The potential exits for multiple wingers will also give United a much-needed boost in their finances.

Watkins still has three years left on his contract at Villa, but Unai Emery is eying Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson as another forward to add to his squad, which could mean he’s expecting the departure of Watkins.
