Dorset Police said received a report that at around 6.30pm on Sunday, July 27 a man aged in his 40s from Bournemouth was walking in the areas of Whitecliff and Baiter Park when he was confronted the man.
It was reported that when the man tried to engage with the victim and this was not reciprocated, he became aggravated, and an altercation ensued in which the victim was punched in the face three times.
The man then left the area in the direction of Sherwood Avenue.
The force are now appealing for witnesses to the alleged assault to come forward.
Police Constable Niki Edwards, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident, and we are now able to issue an image of a man we would like to identify.
“I urge anyone with knowledge of who he is to please get in touch with us.”
