SATELLITE BEACH — A 64-year-old area man was arrested Saturday and charged with leaving the scene of a Satellite Beach crash Friday night in which a pedestrian was killed, police said Sunday.
John Thomas Vazquez Sr. was taken into custody Saturday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death after an investigation by Satellite Beach Police. He is expected to go before a Brevard County judge today for a bond hearing at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
The deadly crash occurred at about 6:12 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of State Road A1A near Cadillac Cove restaurant, according to police. The unidentified pedestrian was treated by paramedics and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where he died from his injuries.
Police have not released any further information on the victim. There were no pedestrian walkways in the immediate area of the incident.
Police linked Vazquez’s Ford F-150 — which had damage — to the crash. The truck was later found at Vazquez’s home at 135 Dorset Lane in an unincorporated part of Satellite Beach. Vazquez was being held Sunday in the Brevard County Jail Complex without bail.
