Mable Chan cheers youth high-speed rail trip to Wuhan

Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan attended the launching ceremony of the Youth High-Speed Rail Trip to Wuhan on Wednesday, encouraging youth to observe the development of the city.

Themed around “new quality productive forces,” the four-day trip will take Hong Kong youth to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province.

Chan noted that participants could observe the city’s advancements in technology, transportation, and tourism during the visit, adding that Wuhan University is particularly noteworthy for its stunning campus.

She highlighted MTR’s recent breakthroughs, including the adoption of robotics and smart technologies—such as big data and artificial intelligence—for railway inspection and maintenance.

Chan also mentioned that Hong Kong residents can now travel to 93 mainland stations via high-speed rail, following the addition of 16 new stations since January 2024.

She also pointed out that the total passenger volume on the Hong Kong section of the High-Speed Rail exceeded 26 million last year, marking an increase of over 30 percent compared to 2023.

She added that the number of single-day passengers reached 136,000 on the third day of the Lunar New Year this year, demonstrating the popularity of the High-Speed Rail among Hong Kong travelers.
