MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis Urban Fashion Week is in August.
The week consists of wellness boot camps, pop-up shops, panel discussions and of course a fashion show.
All geared to highlighting the fashion scene in the 901 Now.
The fashion week is the brainchild of Prep Curry.
“The fashion scene is very spread out, but it is very cultured,” Curry said. “You have a lot of people who are learning and researching other cities and places and bringing those to their own style and uniqueness and that’s what I’ve been pushing toward myself.”
A week filled with fashion, fellowship, and fun–nearly 90 models will take the stage to show off their style.
“You can expect the Memphis Jookin going down the runway, a lot of people singing, a lot of people dancing, a lot of artistry and painting,” Curry said. “I put my own spin on the fashion shows that I do so you can expect something very different.”
Curry said like many of his shows, this show will give exposure to the raw talent in the city.
“A lot of people don’t know how to reach to another level. They’ve never been to NYC fashion week, Paris or any of the other ones,” Curry said. “So, they don’t know how it works. So basically, I reached out to everybody that’s in Memphis to be a part of this. Its not just Lemoyne-Owen, it’s Christian Brothers, the University of Memphis, the Memphis Jookers, we literally have everyone a part of this.”
In addition to local talent, Curry is partnering with J Alexander Martin, co-founder of FUBU, to bring fashion and conversation together.
Getting ready to strut their stuff, Curry said he’s excited for people to get a taste of the fashion scene in the 901.

“I see this growing into something very big,” Curry added. We have FUBU, we have BET there, over thirty celebrities will be there. So, I believe every year we are going to get bigger and bigger to the point where we might need the stadium, the Cannon center, FedExForum, anything to make it bigger and better.”
The week kicks off August 11.
Starting with a Fitness and Wellness boot camp and concludes Friday with the fashion show.
A percentage of the proceeds will go to St. Jude, the National Civil Rights Museum, and Lemoyne Owen College.
