Marilyn Manson‘s October 31st show at the Windsor Hall/Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, UK is facing growing opposition. BBC report that the divisive shock rocker’s planned concert has been the target of pushback from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council leader Millie Earl.
The latter politician has taken issue with the numerous allegations of sexual assault and misconduct that were leveled against Manson amid the pandemic years, with over a dozen women coming forward with worrying claims against him.
While local authorities looked into the claims, they declined to press charges for the alleged incidents, some of which were claimed to have spanned back decades. Since those allegations hit, Manson‘s career was put on the backburner, with his manager, label and talent agent all dumping him in 2021.
For his part, Manson has denied the claims, and thus far has reached settlements with two of his accusers, with another civil lawsuit filed by an accuser being voluntarily dismissed. A sexual assault lawsuit filed by his former personal assistant, and another sexual assault lawsuit filed by a woman claiming to have been assaulted by Manson in the mid to late 90s, both remain in play.
In response to the allegations, Manson had previously filed a defamation suit against his ex-fiancée Evan Rachel Wood and her associate Ilma Gore, claiming the pair had coached numerous women and orchestrated the wave of allegations to be put forward against him. Wood herself had publicly named Manson as her abuser back in 2021. However, last November, Manson dropped that suit against the pair, following several setbacks in court.
In light of the above, Earl has claimed that Manson‘s planned Halloween concert should be canceled in a bid to, “reinforce the message that violence against women and girls isn’t something that’s acceptable in our community.” The venue Manson has been booked to perform at, the Bournemouth International Centre, is operated by BH Live, with the BCP owning the venue.
Earl has revealed that she has conveyed her concerns to BH Live, stating:
“Because of our lease arrangement with them, we don’t have any input into the decisions that are made, the acts that are appearing, although I have actually written to BH Live to express my concern. I don’t feel Marilyn Manson reflects the values we have in BCP and we’ve been doing a lot of work around things like the White Ribbon accreditation scheme which helps men and boys change negative, damaging behaviours. So I have asked that BH Live reconsider hosting Marilyn Manson later this year.”
Manson relaunched his musical career in 2024, playing his first live show since 2019 and releasing his first album since the above-mentioned allegations had been made. The planned dates for his European/UK leg of shows this fall include:
