LEVANT — For the fourth consecutive year, a corn maze at Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant was named the in nation by USA Today readers.
Treworgy has been creating different corn maze designs for over 20 years, according to co-owner Jonathan Kenerson. This year’s theme is “The Whale of a Tale,” inspired by the children’s book “Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man,” by Maine author Robert McCloskey.
The book tells of a retired fisherman on the coast of Maine who is swallowed by a whale.
The maze is shaped like a whale, with participants entering through the blowhole.
“We love to highlight some of what Maine has to offer,” said Kenerson. “Commercial fishing has been a key part of Maine’s cultural heritage as well as farming so this is a great way to combine fishing and farming.”
The farm’s pumpkin patch was also voted second-best by USA Today readers.
Treworgy Family Orchards is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on the weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tickets for the maze are $12 on weekdays and $15 on weekends and holidays. Children under two get in for free.
