Lazio have held internal talks to map out their transfer strategy for the upcoming January window, as the Roman side end interest in Inter duo Davide Frattesi and Piotr Zielinski.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito and coach Maurizio Sarri met at Formello yesterday to assess options amid tight financial constraints.
According to Il Messaggero, the club are focusing on midfield reinforcements.
However, they have decided to rule out moves for Inter’s Frattesi and Zielinski due to their high costs.
“In midfield, the first choice had been Ilicic, given the expense of Zielinski and Frattesi,” the report explains.
“But the outcome of his recent knee tests could change everything.”
Lazio Turn Attention To Mainoo After Giving Up On Inter Duo Frattesi & Zielinski
Both Frattesi and Zielinski had been admired by Sarri for their technical profiles and Serie A experience.
However, the Lazio hierarchy have accepted that deals for either are financially unrealistic.
Instead, the club’s dream target remains Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United.
However, competition from several top European sides makes the move extremely difficult.
Lazio are therefore expected to turn to more affordable alternatives as they seek to strengthen a squad that has struggled for depth this season.
However, the message from Formello is clear: no Inter midfielders will be arriving in January.
