Authorities said the sixth member of the group arrived home on Saturday morning. The person had stayed in Thailand to help the country’s police with investigations into the trafficking of scam victims to Myanmar to engage in forced labour.
“A member of the Security Bureau’s dedicated task force also stayed in Thailand to accompany and assist that person, and returned to Hong Kong in the small hours today together with the individual,” a bureau spokesman said.
The five others from the latest batch of rescued residents arrived in Hong Kong on Friday.
Since 2024, the city’s law enforcement agencies have recorded 28 cases of Hongkongers suspected to be detained in Southeast Asian countries in connection with scams, according to the bureau.
Twenty-five of them have returned to the city, including the six – aged 29 to 44 – who arrived on Friday and Saturday.
