Kevin De Bruyne off the mark for Napoli in friendly win against Girona

Kevin De Bruyne scored a brace and assisted the other in what were his first goal contributions for Napoli as the Italian champions went on to beat Girona 3-2 in a pre-season friendly, with the season starting later this month.

De Bruyne assisted Giovanni Di Lorenzo from a corner and then scored twice in the first half to give Napoli a 3-0 lead by the 23rd minute. But Girona came back in the first half itself with a brace from veteran striker Cristhian Stuani. The second half was a much more tame affair compared to the first which had five goals.

This game will serve as a warning to all Serie A sides as De Bruyne, despite his age and fitness issues increasing, can still be a game changer when the season begins. A notable conundrum for Napoli however, will be how De Bruyne and Scott McTominay, who played a massive role in last year’s Scudetto win, play together in the same XI.
