The Philippines men’s basketball team took a resounding 93-54 victory over Hong Kong China to complete a two-game home sweep in the second window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers 2025 on Sunday (24 November).
Carl Tamayo had 16 points and five rebounds, and Kai Sotto chipped in 12 points, 15 rebounds and two steals as the home side exploded for 22 points while holding Hong Kong China to just eight in the third frame to assert their dominance on the group.
There was little let up in the fourth quarter for the visitors, with the Filipinos going 26-11 to conclude their romp and move 4-0 and stay top of Group B.
Victory tonight moves the Philippines that bit closer to next year’s Asia Cup, to be hosted by Saudi Arabia from 5-17 August.
Should New Zealand, beatean by Gilas on Thursday, defeat Chinese Taipei on Monday in Christchurch, the Filipinos will automatically earn their berth with one window of qualifying still left to go.
That will take place in February 2025 with Gilas set to face Chinese Taipei and New Zealand’s Tall Blacks for a second time.
