Josh O’Connor Returns To The Red Carpet

Josh O'Connor Returns To The Red Carpet

These days, you’re more likely to see a male celeb decked in a fashion-forward red carpet ensemble than traditional black-tie – even at Cannes, with its strict dress code.

Jeremy Strong wore his tonal outfits, even adopting a variation of pastel shades reminiscent of a Fifties ice cream parlour.

Colman Domingo pulled off an out-there hat.

And Josh O’Connor captured the audience’s attention with his presence – missing The History of Sound premiere earlier in the week, which he co-leads with Paul Mescalan ear-to-ear grin, and an equally alluring outfit.

Marking his first award show appearance this year, the 35-year-old actor stepped onto the red carpet for Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind in a custom Prada outfit.

From the double-breasted blazer to the brooch, and the perfectly placed turn up of the suit trousers, this ensemble deserved the excitement that Alana Haim gave O’Connor’s entrance.

It is quirky and cute (much like O’Connor himself) yet fitting for the occasion.

For fashion insiders it begs an even bigger question about the man’s style journey: could we see less Loewe looks, and more Prada in his future?

There’s several factors why.

Josh O’Connor has been a Loewe ambassador since 2017, and was picked by then creative director Jonathan Anderson to be the first ever face of their menswear.

Since then, the two have become great friends and collaborators, O’Connor often sporting his Loewe looks down the red carpet while Anderson has had the joy of working with him on-screen, too, designing the costumes several Luca Guadagnino films, including Challengers and Queer.

Then, in April, it was announced that after 11 years at Loewe, Anderson would be stepping into the CD role of Dior’s menswear.

While that won’t directly affect O’Connor’s ambassadorship – there’s a lot more moving parts involved in that decision – it has many questioning whether he’ll be drawn to the brand now that his pal is no longer there.

Granted, there’s been no evidence of him moving to Dior yet.

Loewe’s autumn/winter ’25 campaign dropped just over a week ago, and unsurprisingly, O’Connor stars in it. Fervently checking his stylist Harry Lambert’s Instagram shows no sign of Josh wearing any Dior as of late.

That could be because Anderson hasn’t debuted his first collection with the fashion house yet, which walks the runway in June.

Maybe that’s why we’ve seen O’Connor adopting more of Miuccia’s designs, wearing Prada at Cannes and Miu Miu in the IndieWire hub at Sundance in February.

What we do know is this: whatever Josh O’Connor wears on the red carpet will, undoubtedly, look great.
