Jenna Ortega wears chic Oscar de la Renta suit at SXSW premiere of ‘Death of a Unicorn’

Instead of a dress, Jenna Ortega showed up in a stunning suit for the premiere of Death of a Unicorn at SXSW in Austin on Saturday, March 8.

For the upcoming A24 film, the actress costars with Paul Rudd and Will Poulter. According to the film’s synopsis, the story follows a man and his daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn with their car, which leads his boss to try exploit the creature’s “miraculous curative properties — with horrific results.”

For the SXSW premiere, Ortega walked the carpet in a glen plaid suit from Oscar de la Renta‘s fall 2025 collection, making the look her own by adding a burgundy button-up and matching satin tie. The star accessorized with diamond-encrusted earrings by Kendra Scott and, in some pictures, she added a pair of small ovular sunglasses.

Stylist Enrique Melendez, who has been working with Ortega since 2016, dressed her for the occasion. The “actress completed her look by wearing her signature dark hair in a sleek updo with side bangs, while her makeup included shimmery eyeshadow and a maroon lip that matched the color of the button-up.

While this look still screams Jenna Ortega, wearing Oscar de la Renta is still a departure for the young star, who is known to opt for Dior any chance she gets. Earlier this year, she attended Dior’s spring 2025 couture show in Paris, where she put a Gothic spin on the French fashion house’s iconic cinched blazers, accessorizing with leather opera gloves. At the time, Ortega’s outfit consisted of a sleeveless jacket and microshorts, which she paired with sheer tights, cat-eye frames and open-toe satin pumps.

Dior also dressed Ortega for the Venice Film Festival premiere of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in August. She wore a sheer red dress inspired by Lydia Deetz’s wedding gown from the original 1988 film. Throughout the press tour for the “Beetlejuice” sequel, Ortega’s looks nodded to other characters from the cult comedy, including the titular ghost. At the film’s Venice Film Festival photo call, she woree a maroon double-breasted Paul Smith suit, similar to one Michael Keaton wears on screen.

Now that she’s promoting a film without such recognizable characters, it seems like she’s able to have more fun with her looks, while still wearing ensembles she feels comfortable in.
