Japan’s new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Friday he will make efforts to realize his first bilateral summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but noted that no specific date is being discussed.
Ishiba also told a press conference in Laos that he and Chinese Premier Li Qiang agreed during talks the previous day to maintain “multilayered” communication between Tokyo and Beijing, including at the leaders’ level.
