India ties 'solid', Hasina's remarks raise tensions: Yunus to Foreign Secretary

Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim govrnment Muhammad Yunus said during his meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Dhaka that the relationship between Bangladesh and India was “very solid” and “close”.

Yunus asked India to “clear the clouds” which have “cast a shadow” over the relationship between the two neighbours recently.

Misri also held a meeting with Bangladesh’s advisor on foreign affairs, Md Touhid Hossain in Dhaka on Monday.

Misri’s meeting marked the first high-level diplomatic engagement between the two countries since the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government took power on August 8.

Yunus also raised concerns over the statements of Awami League chief and ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has taken shelter in India.

“Our people are concerned because she is making many statements from there. It creates tensions,” Yunus told Misri.
