UTICA, N.Y. — The 21st annual Sitrin Celebrity Wheelchair Classic took place at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus on Utica University on Thursday night. The event pits celebrities from the Central New York community against the Sitrin Stars, a team comprised of athletes who compete in wheelchairs.

The Sitrin Stars steamrolled the Celebrity Cruisers, 47-31

Several items from the Buffalo Bills, Syracuse University, WWE and several pieces of movie memorabilia were up for auction. Proceeds from the event all went to benefit the Sitrin Stars, and will be used for equipment for basketball and Boilermaker races, a variety of adaptive sports, as well as for future training and competition for the athletes.

Syracuse Men’s Basketball players J.J. Starling and Donnie Freeman participated in the event, along with five players from Syracuse University Women’s Basketball – Ka’Shya Hawkins, Olivia Schmitt, Keira Scott, Angelica Velez, and Journey Thompson. Olympian Erin Hamlin also took part in the event with the celebrity squad.

The team of celebrities quickly found out playing basketball in a wheelchair is not as easy as they thought, as evidenced by the final score. The Sitrin Stars won the game, 47-31.
