The official shift from summer to autumn is always bittersweet. One minute I’m soaking up the sun, the next I’m mentally picking out which boots I’ll want to rock come brisk fall days. I love summer, but fall is hands-down my favourite season. So while I’m sad to see the warmer days fade into cooler nights, I can’t help but feel a little excited, too.
The transitional stretch is arguably the best time for fashion, in my humble opinion. As a shopping editor (and self-declared expert), it may come as no surprise that I already have my eye on a handful of chic pieces I’m itching to add to my wardrobe as temperatures finally start to drop.
My go-to stores for fall staples include Aritzia, Anthropologie, Abercrombie, Simons and Reformation — just to name a few. If you’re craving a little fall style inspiration, I’m your gal. Keep scrolling to see what’s currently at the top of my wish list.
Wild Horses Fleece Loose Jacket. (Photo via Simons)
I’m on an equestrian kick these days, and this fleece zip-up has been living in my brain rent-free. I’m obsessed with Sherpa-like sweaters in general, but this chic horse design really kicks the obsession up a notch. Everything about this piece feels vintage in the coziest way.
Funnel Neck Buttoned Sweater. (Photo via Simons)
Funnel-neck cardigans are something I’m specifically looking out for this year, and the same goes for stripes — this cute cardigan brings the best of both worlds. There’s something so comfy and lived-in yet put-together about this specific knit; I could see myself wearing it on so many different occasions.
Defina Knit Dress. (Photo via Reformation)
Something I’ve consistently loved every time fall rolls around is a little black dress with a pair of sheer tights and knee-high boots. Tell me that isn’t the epitome of autumn! This Defina Knit Dress from Reformation totally fits the bill (and it’s already in my cart).
Vegan Leather Trench Coat. (Photo via Abercrombie)
If you’re looking for the perfect pleather jacket for fall, this trench is chic yet comfortable, thanks to its soft vegan leather and relaxed fit. It features a double-breasted collar, funnel neckline with belted closure detail, side entry pockets and adjustable tie at the waist.
Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater. (Photo via Reformation)
Nothing is more luxurious than a cashmere sweater, and this trendy striped one from Reformation is right up my alley. It features a relaxed fit that’s great for layering, making it a versatile choice for colder seasons. It’s made of a fine-gauge recycled cashmere blend — 95 per cent recycled cashmere and five per cent cashmere.
We The Free Good Luck Mid Rise Barrel Jeans. (Photo via Revolve)
Barrel jeans are my favourite trend right now, and they’ve been my go-to lately. I’ve been swayed by the curved-leg silhouette; it’s cool and surprisingly flattering, plus, it gives every outfit a little edge. This Free People pair in “Ultra Light Beam” nails the look.
The ’80s Comfy Denim Shirt. (Photo via Aritzia)
This relaxed button-up definitely deserves a spot in my fall wardrobe. It’s made from lightweight, non-stretch denim with a soft feel, featuring a patch pocket and a rounded hem, too. The medium indigo wash adds just the right vintage vibe.

It’s evident that stripes are having a moment, and I’m fully on board. This rugby-style polo checks all the boxes: bold stripes, a structured collar and that slightly preppy, academia vibe I gravitate toward come September.
Water-Resistant Long Barn Coat. (Photo via Old Navy)
If you’re up to date on fashion trends, surely you’ve heard of the coveted barn jacket. This long version has a classic corduroy collar, buttoned front and vented back. The structured silhouette and classic details make it a versatile layer worth reaching for all season long.
Escapade Brown Nubuck. (Photo via Steve Madden)
These nubuck boots from Steve Madden are the perfect mix of rugged and chic. They have a rich, soft finish that gives them a luxe feel, while the sturdy sole and sleek silhouette make them easy to style with everything from denim skirts to mini dresses this fall.
We The Free Cute In This Cardi. (Photo via Free People)
Pricey? Yes. Super cute? Yes. I have been obsessed with this Free People cardigan for a while now — I mean, there’s a reason it’s a bestseller. It’s cozy, classic and the perfect casual throw-on for when you need an extra layer this season.
The Keira Long-Sleeve Shirt Dress. (Photo via Anthropologie)
I’ve been loving anything with a Peter Pan collar these days, and this dress is no exception. It also has subtly puffed sleeves trimmed with petite ruffles, which tie the whole look together. Picture this with some knee-high boots — chic, am I right?
