Huawei-backed Luxeed updates 2 EV models to target bigger market share

Luxeed, the new automotive brand co-developed by Huawei and Chery, has launched updated versions of its two current models to target a larger market share.

The updated Luxeed S7 sedan and updated Luxeed R7 coupe SUV (sport utility vehicle) were officially launched at today’s Huawei HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business fall launch event, with starting prices of RMB 229,800 ($32,130) and RMB 249,800, respectively.

These prices are lower than the pre-sale prices, which were RMB 258,000 for the updated Luxeed S7 and RMB 268,000 for the updated Luxeed R7 when pre-sales began earlier this month.

Specifically, the updated Luxeed S7 offers three variants — Max, Max+, and Max Ultra — with starting prices of RMB 229,800, RMB 249,800, and RMB 289,800, respectively.

The updated Luxeed R7 also offers three variants — Max, Max+, and Max Ultra — with starting prices of RMB 249,800, RMB 269,800, and RMB 309,800, respectively.

These two updated models are the first products launched by Luxeed after entering its “Phase 2.0,” equipped with Huawei’s ADS 4 driving assistance system.

In terms of hardware, both models come standard with a 192-channel LiDAR, a rear-facing high-precision solid-state LiDAR, and five 4D millimeter-wave radars.

Huawei and Chery signed a new cooperation agreement on August 7 to bring Luxeed into the “Phase 2.0.”

Luxeed would invest over RMB 1 billion and expand its R&D team to 5,000 people to strengthen its technological leadership, the brand said.

Luxeed launched its first model, the Luxeed S7 pure electric sedan, on November 28, 2023.

On September 24, 2024, Luxeed launched its second model, the Luxeed R7, the first coupe SUV under Huawei’s HIMA business.

The updated Luxeed S7 remains available only as a battery electric vehicle (BEV), built on Huawei’s Giant Whale 800-volt high-voltage platform, with a CLTC range of up to 855 kilometers.

Its dimensions are 4,971 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,474 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.

The updated Luxeed R7 continues to offer two powertrain options, with both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants available at the same price point.

The BEV variants offer a CLTC range of up to 736 kilometers, while the EREV variants offer a CLTC battery range of up to 360 kilometers.
