2026 long weekends in Hong Kong

January 1

The first day of 2026 falls on a Thursday, and if you want to enjoy a long weekend right at the beginning of the year, take a leave on January 2 (Friday). A 4-day weekend to start 2026 right! What could be better?

February 17 to 19

Hong Kong celebrates the Lunar New Year amid much fervour and festivities. February 17-19 (Tuesday to Thursday) are holidays in Hong Kong, perfect for a long mid-month break. To make it a long weekend, all you have to do is take either February 16 (Monday) or February 20 (Friday) off, and you can enjoy a 5-day long weekend. Or, if you are feeling adventurous or are looking to enjoy a really long weekend, take both days off, and you can have a 9-day-long holiday. Plan to visit the mainland for a quick break, or spend time relaxing in your home, the choice is yours.

April 3 to 7

In April, Hongkongers are in for a treat! Several holidays fall towards the beginning of the month, very close together, and clubbing them can mean another long weekend. April 3 is Good Friday and a holiday. April 4 (Saturday) is a holiday due to being the day following Good Friday. April 5 is Ching Ming Festival, but since it falls on a Sunday, April 6 (Monday) has been designated as a holiday. And since April 6 is also Easter Monday, which is already a holiday, April 7 (Tuesday) has also been declared a holiday. With 5 days in April being official holidays, a quick trip to Lantau Island or even to foreign shores is a great idea.

May 1

May 1 (Friday) is Labour Day, and another chance for those in Hong Kong to plan a quick 3-day weekend. You can choose to spend your long weekend exploring local markets or stay put in your home with a good book and snacks.

May 25

The Birthday of the Buddha falls on May 24 (Sunday), and the Hong Kong administration is declaring a holiday on May 25 (Monday), in place of Sunday. A readymade 3-day long weekend at your disposal, what else could you want for a mid-year (almost) break?

June 19

The last long weekend in 2026 comes with Christmas, with December 25 falling on a Friday. You can enjoy a 3-day-long holiday as it is, or take a couple more days off to enjoy a longer vacation.
