How to Book A Table At the UK’s Newest Three Michelin Star Restaurant

Last week, the world’s culinary elite welcomed a new member. Moor Hall became the UK’s tenth restaurant with three Michelin stars and the second place to own three stars and a Michelin green star (next to L’Enclume).

The restaurant, which lives inside a restored 16th-century country house in the tiny Lancashire village of Aughton, was opened by head chef Mark Birchall in 2017 and earned its first star in 2022.

Earning a third star is no mean feat. Michelin reserves it for the restos that demonstrate ‘years of dedication’ and represent the ‘pinnacle of gastronomic brilliance’.

On awarding Moor Hall its highest accolade, Michelin wrote: ‘Every dish is now simply brilliant, with consistent levels of precision, balance and purity of flavour achieved throughout. The level of culinary craft is outstanding and the result is food as satisfying as it is impressive.’

Some of the Inspectors’ favourite dishes included sweetbell turnip and crab with anise hyssop and sunflower seeds and turbot cooked in brown butter with mylor prawns, kuri squash and marigold sauce

Compared to London’s starred restaurants, which are pretty much booked up 24/7, it’s actually not that difficult to secure a table at Moor Hall. It still has availability through February and March – take a look at the website here.

To give you an idea of what it’ll cost, the dinner tasting menu is priced at £235 per person and for lunch you can eat from £125 per person.

If you can’t get a seat at Moor Hall or you fancy something a little more low-key, you could always try out its sister restaurant just next door. The Barn is Moor Hall’s ‘more informal sister’, is also run Mark Birchall and boasts one Michelin star.
