The Paris Olympics were, by all accounts, a live-streaming success not only here in the United States but in many other countries around the world, including in Southeast Asia.
As the Olympics rightsholder in Hong Kong, RTHK (Radio Television Hong Kong) delivered a live streaming experience of the Games that met audience demands for a synchronized experience with low latency.
Through a partnership between the Hong Kong engineering consultancy Mediatech Limited and transmission vendor Vindral, RTHK was able to sync up its streams to ensure consistency across live streaming experiences at homes, as well as in bars and restaurants across the country.
“We are proud to have delivered some of the world’s most desirable sports content in a groundbreaking way,” a project leader from RTHK said in a statement. “The viewers got a better experience than traditionally expected for live streaming of sports,”
It was Vindral’s delivery solutions that helped synchronize the many feeds coming in from across the Summer Olympics, while Mediatech’s elastic backend system paved the way for RHTK to meet scalability.
“With Vindral, the Mediatech live streaming solution can resize to accommodate large changes in viewership and channels broadcasting simultaneously on the fly,” said Raymond Mo, Founder and Managing Director for Mediatech. “This means that Mediatech can quickly adapt to surging demand, ensuring a seamless viewing experience for a large audience.”
“Mediatech is a highly appreciated partner of ours, and we are looking forward to the next chapter as the service keeps scaling up in the Asian regions,” says Daniel Alinder, CEO at Vindral.
