A Hong Kong tour guide was confirmed dead after being ejected from a vehicle in an accident near Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Friday afternoon.
The Shanghai Public Security Bureau’s International Airport Division announced that the accident occurred at 2.20 pm on the S32 highway near the airport’s service area ramp.
According to a preliminary investigation, it is believed that the 53-year-old driver, surnamed Shen, lost control of the vehicle while driving on a curve, causing the bus to collide with a road barrier.
The collision resulted in one passenger being thrown from the vehicle, leading to their death, while two others sustained minor injuries.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
It is understood that the bus was part of a tour group organized by Hong Kong travel agency Miramar Travel.
Lee Chun-ting, the agency’s managing director, responded to a media inquiry, confirming that the deceased was a Hong Kong tour guide. He expressed his sadness over the accident and stated that the cause is still under investigation by mainland authorities.
Lee mentioned that there were 16 people on the tour, and they were en route to Shanghai Pudong International Airport to return to Hong Kong before the accident occurred.
He also noted that all other tour members were unharmed. The two tour members who were shaken by the incident went to the hospital for a checkup and were found to be fine. The tour guide driver did not suffer any injuries.
The tour group plans to continue with their original itinerary and return to Hong Kong tonight.
