Hong Kong temperatures to fall on Sunday and reach 11 degrees Celsius next week

Temperatures in Hong Kong will begin falling on Sunday and reach as low as 11 degrees Celsius (51.8 Fahrenheit) early next week amid a cold front that is expected to move across the coastal areas of southern China.

The Observatory said that although conditions were relatively warm with sunny periods on Saturday, the mercury would dip to a minimum 13 degrees the following day with strengthened winds.

But Hongkongers should brace for even cooler weather on Monday when the temperature falls to as low as 11 degrees, before gradually climbing to 13 degrees on Wednesday, the first day of the Year of the Snake.

“A cold front is expected to move across the coastal areas of southern China during the day [on Sunday]. The associated intense winter monsoon will bring cold and very dry weather to the region early next week,” the forecaster said.

“It will be very cold in the morning over inland areas. Under the influence of an easterly airstream, it will become cloudier gradually and remain cool in the middle and latter parts of next week.”

Temperatures will be warmer in the latter half of the week at between 16 and 20 degrees. Conditions will be mainly cloudy with one or two patches of light rain.
