The unions said the group has only settled the outstanding salaries for May to June for affected employees, while other entitlements remain unaddressed.
Hong Kong restaurant chain King Parrot Group, which has been in operation for 33 years, is suspected of closing down.
According to a Facebook post by the Hotels, Food and Beverage Employees Association and the Eating Establishment Employees General Union (EEEGU), the group informed employees about the termination of the business on 6 June 2025. Several brand outlets were reportedly closed on the same day.
Some affected employees have reported that the group has only settled their outstanding salaries for May and June, while other entitlements remain unaddressed.
The unions have expressed great concern for the rights and interests of King Parrot’s employees, and are urging affected workers to prepare accordingly. They advised employees to keep all relevant employment documents, including employment contracts, pay slips or monthly bank statements, MPF accrued benefits statements, roster records, and other related documents.
According to HK01, the Labour Department (LD) has stated that it is highly concerned about the incident and called on affected employees who suspect their employment rights have been violated, to promptly go to the Office of Labour Relations Division for assistance. The department will provide appropriate support.
Chiu Kwun-chung, head of the EEEGU’s labour rights committee, has told the press that the union has received requests for help from over 100 employees. He will accompany affected workers to file a case with the LD today (9 June).
The website of King Parrot Group has now been taken down, and there have been no recent updates on its social media platforms.
Founded in 1992, King Parrot Group once owned over 20 restaurant brands and operated more than 30 themed restaurants. However, the group has gradually downscaled over recent years. Its two restaurants in the Murray Building in Stanley, King Ludwig Beerhall and Ocean Rock Seafood & Tapas, closed last April, while its Japanese restaurant Yakiniku Otoko also shut down this February.
Additionally, it is reported that the group has recently sold its entire-floor headquarters office located in the Chinaweal Centre in Wan Chai.
