A Hong Kong rescue team has continued the search for survivors in the earthquake-stricken city of Mandalay in Myanmar as part of an overnight mission.
As of 8.30am on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Security Bureau said rescuers were still continuing their mission near the Mandalay Palace with search and blasting tools, in an operation that began on Monday, with an additional 11-strong team deployed in the evening.
“The HKSAR rescue team has started searches after arriving at Mandalay yesterday [Monday]. After coordinating with other teams, they had begun to conduct onsite assessments and quick searches at multiple locations, carrying out rescue operations in Chan Aye Thar San and Mahar Aung Myay,” the spokesman said in a Facebook post from the bureau.
Hong Kong has sent a 51-strong rescue team comprising 41 from the Fire Services Department, four from the Security Bureau, two from the police force, and two doctors and nurses from the Hospital Authority, as well as, two rescue dogs.
In a video posted by the Fire Services Department on Tuesday morning, acting assistant divisional officer Rocky Ng Wai-nok explained that the team was using tools to blast concrete and cut through iron rods to open up space in the debris.
