Hong Kong police are investigating the deaths of three dogs in a suspected poisoning case in the New Territories, the Post has learned, amid a recent surge in incidents of animal cruelty.
A source said the force received a report at around 1.13am on Thursday that three dogs had been found dead near a warehouse in Lin Tong Mei village in Sheung Shui.
The report described patches of vomit near the dogs’ remains, prompting suspicions that the animals were poisoned, the insider added.
The source also said officers discovered a two-month-old puppy alive at the scene, with the animal showing no signs of physical injury and later being handed over to the local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The case has been classified as suspected animal cruelty and is being handled by Tai Po Police District’s criminal investigation team. No arrests have been made so far.
Last December, Miss Hong Kong 2020 winner Lisa-Marie Tse Ga-ye said two of her dogs had died and another was put at risk in a suspected poisoning case after she took the animals for a walk in She Shan village in Lam Tsuen.
