The Pickleball Hong Kong Open began on Thursday with the action taking place at Kai Tak Arena.
There were two all-Hong Kong women’s quarter-final clashes in the qualifiers, with Venise Chan overcoming Man Kwan-wun before Lam Ying-suet beat Magdaleine Wong-yuet – both victories coming in straight sets.
Chan will now face Tang Nok-yiu, ranked No 4 for the tournament, in their round-of-16 match in the pro women’s singles category on Friday.
Lam will face Australia’s Nicola Schoeman, who is the No 2 seed.
Later in the day, the home crowd will hope to cheer Hong Kong men’s No 1 Jack Wong Hong-kit to victory in his round-of-16 clash against No 16-ranked Li Zefeng, from mainland China, set for 9am.
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.
