Hong Kong police have arrested a driver for refusing to provide breath and blood samples to determine his alcohol level, with the suspect sharing the same name as a culinary director at a high-end Chinese restaurant.
The force said officers stopped the car at the junction of Fleming Road and Harbour Road in Wan Chai at 4.04am on Saturday, and suspected the driver, surnamed Chau, had been drinking.
A police source said the suspect was 41-year-old Chau Sai-to, whose name, occupation and age matched those of the culinary director of Chinesology located in Central’s IFC Mall.
The force said Chau was arrested for refusing to provide breath and blood samples, and was later released on bail.
The driver complained of neck pain and was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment, it added.
Chinesology became the city’s first high-end Chinese eatery to obtain “halal-friendly” certification in 2024.
