A Hong Kong district councillor has been struck by a falling piece of concrete while moving supplies with a care team at a public housing estate.
Police received a report shortly after noon on Saturday that a woman had been hit on the head by a falling piece of concrete at Yiu Tung Estate in Shau Kei Wan.
“The woman was conscious and was subsequently sent to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital [in Chai Wan],” a force spokesman said.
The Post has learned that district councillor Ng Ching-ching was the victim. She was handling supplies with her assistant and 10 care team members at Yiu Wa House when the accident happened.
Police later discovered the flat where the concrete fell from was empty and undergoing renovation.
A source said that shortly after 11am several pieces of concrete fell from the residential block. Officers later discovered about 10 concrete pieces measuring 1cm by 2cm (0.4 inches by .78 inches), the insider said.
