When tasked with transforming the 47th-floor penthouse at the Alagon on Bayshore, luxury designer Rob Bowen drew on fashion houses, Parisian salons and cinematic interiors to develop a style he calls “high gloss meets high fashion.”
The four-bedroom, 4.5-bath residence was designed to serve both as a comfortable family home and a striking venue for entertaining. Panoramic views of Tampa Bay from the primary suite and salon are framed with minimal drapery and strategic lighting, seamlessly integrating the exterior into the interior experience.
High-contrast black and white form the foundation of the design, layered with jewel tones—magenta, eggplant and emerald—and accented with gold for drama. One of the project’s greatest technical challenges was executing black lacquer on such a large scale, where even the smallest imperfection could disrupt the seamless finish.
Custom lighting installations by Gabriel Scott and Lindsay Adelman double as sculptural art. Flocked houndstooth wallcovering, shimmering Lucite panels, woven metal drapery in the salon and glass bead wallpaper with a gold-leaf overlay all add texture and intrigue.
While every space was thoughtfully considered, Bowen singles out the rotunda as his favorite—a dramatic architectural focal point where custom marble floors meet glossy black walls. Still, the greatest achievement was creating a home that captures the clients’ personality while remaining equally livable and visually unforgettable.
