After shifting focus away from Nokia-branded phones, HMD has launched a range of smartphones under its own brand. For example, the company launched Skyline, a mid-range phone with Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. The company’s portfolio also includes HMD Arc and HMD Key: entry-level offerings with the Android 14 Go operating system. A new leak has recently surfaced online suggesting that the company is working on a new budget 5G smartphone.
The leak comes from X user @smashx_60, who has contributed to many HMD-related leaks in the past. The tipster claims that a phone named HMD Candy 5G is in the works with an IPS LCD panel featuring a 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the HMD Candy 5G will feature a 108MP primary camera. On the front, it may feature a 50MP camera.
The phone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. It is Qualcomm’s entry-level 8-core processor that was announced in 2023. According to NanoReview, the chipset scores around 420K points in AnTuTu 10. The processor is also utilized in HMD Fusion, a modular smartphone that launched last year. Additionally, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 has powered phones such as the Redmi 12 5G, Honor 200 Smart, and Poco M7.
The leaker states that the HMD Candy 5G will feature a large 5,000mAh battery capacity with 33W fast charging support. Lastly, the phone may launch in several colorful finishes. Apart from this phone, HMD is also expected to launch new wireless earbuds and a smartwatch. Moreover, the successor to the budget Pulse series is expected to be in the company’s pipeline.
