9th February 2025 – (Hong Kong) The 2025 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon concluded today, and the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA) reported over 900 injury incidents, with eight individuals requiring hospitalisation—currently, their conditions are stable. The event also announced the disqualification of three Mainland runners whose bib numbers did not match their identities, all managed by the same individual.
Ng Yu-ho, the CEO of the HKAAA, indicated that during the post-race awards ceremony, it became apparent that the three award-winning athletes were using incorrect bib numbers. Notably, 23-year-old runner Xu Guoge, who finished second in the men’s 10-kilometre race, had worn a bib assigned to another athlete, Lan Jiehuai. Xu’s own bib, numbered 40086, placed him sixth in the race.
Ng stated that the organisation would investigate how the bib mix-up occurred, as they had sent the bibs to all three athletes simultaneously. This incident has raised concerns within the athletics community regarding race integrity and athlete management.
