Here’s Everything T-Mobile Announced At Today’s Un-Carrier Event

For the first time in over two years, T-Mobile has held a new Un-Carrier event. We theorized yesterday what secrets could be revealed during the presentation, and we got a few right.

Hosted by new CEO Srini Gopalan, the event announced a new major focus for T-Mobile: improving the switching process. Here’s the details.

Switching Made Easy

T-Mobile is tackling what they say is a big pain-point in the cellular industry: switching carriers.

The company says customers spend 3 hours or more on average changing carriers. Now, T-Mobile will allow customers to change carriers via the T-Life app, and there’s a few key features of this ability.

15 Minutes to better

First, T-Mobile wants to speed things up. It’s about time. So the company claims that switching to T-Mobile via the app will take about 15 minutes per-line. Not bad.

Mike Katz, President of Marketing, Strategy, and Products at T-Mobile, came on stage to relay the details.

When signing up a new customer, you’ll have the option to use “Easy Switch”, an AI-guided wizard that can actually sign into your Verizon or AT&T account, check what you’re already paying, and create a custom recommendation for a T-Mobile plan that fits your needs.

New phone? Your choice

Next, customers won’t need to decide on the spot which devices they want. Simply sign up and switch now, and pick your phone later on.

T-Mobile will hold the deals on phones for you until you’re ready. After switching, you can keep the phone you already have and take up to 90 days to decide on a new phone. T-Mobile will hold the promo for you for up to 90 days.

Same-day Delivery

Finally, as we predicted yesterday, T-Mobile will offer Same-day delivery via DoorDash Drive.

When you sign up as a new customer, or upgrade your phone as an existing customer, you can choose to have your phone delivered from your nearby T-Mobile store via DoorDash. DoorDash Drive is the white-label name for deliveries from stores via DoorDash that uses the same drivers as regular DoorDash deliveries.

Even better, the same-day delivery service appears to be free with all phone orders. Alternatively, you can opt for same-day pickup at a T-Mobile location.

The same-day delivery service will begin on December 1st in select locations in major cities, and expand to more locations over time.

Free DashPass Available Again

If you missed out on free DoorDash DashPass over the Summer, T-Mobile is making it available once again.

Starting next Tuesday, November 25th, through December 2nd, T-Mobile postpaid customers can claim a free year of DashPass if they missed out last time. You can find this offer in the T-Life app, of course, on Tuesday.

Pie On Us

As a final “one more thing”, Mike Katz says that T-Mobile is giving out a free pie via DoorDash when ordering groceries. That’s nice, I guess.

The free pie will be available, as always, via T-Life during T-Mobile Tuesdays next week, November 25th. You’ll need a minimum order of $12 to claim the freebie.

Conclusion

As many have come to expect from T-Mobile, the latest Un-Carrier event was a bit of a snooze fest, at least for existing customers.

New prospective customers, on the other hand, will have an easier time switching to T-Mobile moving forward. The idea that a promo available at sign-up will last up to 3 months waiting for your decision is probably the neatest thing about this announcement. The 90-day promo period should also apply to existing accounts that are adding a line.

Overall, a pretty lukewarm announcement from T-Mobile. What do you think about the details? Comment below if you’re looking forward to your free pie!
