These Celebrities Want You to Draw Closer to God This Advent
By Movieguide® Contributor
What do Bear Grylls, Gwen Stefani, Kevin James, Lauren Daigle, Jonathan Roumie and Francis Chan all have in common? You can join them this Advent season on the Hallow prayer app.
This year, the six celebrities teamed up with Hallow for its Advent Pray25 Prayer Challenge.
“The theme of this year’s challenge is ‘For God So Loved the World,’ from John 3:16,” Hallow wrote in a press release. “We’ll dive deep into the real meaning behind this verse and how it brings to life so beautifully the depth of God’s love for us — a love so heartbreakingly deep that He gives us, at Christmas, His only Son, knowing the life He was leading Him to.”

Roumie, who plays Jesus in THE CHOSEN, spoke to Hallow CEO Alex Jones and said that Advent is a moment to “meditate on the immensity, the depth of God’s love for us…This is one of the most profound lineups I’ve seen on Hallow yet.”
Roumie will lead prayers and reflections on the book “A Severe Mercy,” while Grylls will read passages from it.
“A Severe Mercy” is the “true story of Sheldon and his wife Davy and their coming to faith alongside their good friend C.S. Lewis…[and it] will tell the story of God’s relentless pursuit of our hearts, His longing to encounter us, and His quest to dismantle the many idols we construct in His place.”
Meanwhile, Chan will offer insights into scripture, and James and Roumie will discuss meditation.
“Each Saturday this Advent, we’ll encounter God’s love through music, starting with an original Christmas song by Gwen Stefani, three-time Grammy Award winner and coach on THE VOICE. It’s a beautiful song centered around God’s love, perfect to cap off our first week of Advent together,” Hallow explained. “We’ll also be joined by two-time Grammy Award-winning artist and the biggest Christian Music artist in the world, the incredible Lauren Daigle, who will share both a powerful song and her testimony of encountering God’s love.”
