Muddy Stilettos recently published its list of the UK’s 260 Best Places to Live for 2026 and the south east London borough of Greenwich made the cut.
Located abreast the River Thames, Greenwich made the list alongside the other south east London area of Herne Hill.

Describing Greenwich as a “magical borough” that “packs London’s best bits”, Greenwich has a lot to offer for locals and visitors alike, from its historic attractions found in its UNESCO World Heritage Site to its popular market and links to London via DLR, train and ferry services.
Greenwich Park was given an honorary mention, hailed for its skyline views of London and wide stretches of greenery, and is also home to its iconic rows of Cherry Blossom trees, which Instagrammers and photographers flock to each spring.

Dating back to 1433, Greenwich Park is known as London’s oldest enclosed park and was once the playground of Queen Elizabeth I, who spent some time in Greenwich during her childhood and adult life.
The park has also been famously used as a Royal hunting ground – most famously by King Henry VIII who also spent a lot of time in Greenwich.
Today the park offers 180 acres of walking space and is also home to some of the borough’s most iconic landmarks like the Royal Observatory – a 17th century building designed by Christopher Wren – and The Ranger’s House – a former Georgian villa that has famously appeared in the Netflix series Bridgerton.

But Bridgerton isn’t Greenwich’s only claim to fame, as the borough is a top choice for film producers. with its Old Royal Naval College being dubbed by IMDB as the UK’s top heritage filming location.
Over the years Greenwich has appeared in many famous films and TV shows over the years, like The Crown, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor and BBC’s Sherlock to name a few.
The main heart of Greenwich is its UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll find attractions like its famous Maritime Museum, Queen’s House and The Cutty Sark, where visitors and locals can learn about Greenwich’s history with royalty and its strong links to the navy.

But any pub-goer can expect to find plenty of watering holes in this part of Greenwich.
Some of its most famous pubs include The Plume of Feathers – Greenwich’s oldest pub dating back to 1691 – and The Trafalgar Tavern – a popular riverside pub that has become somewhat of an icon on Instagram.

Another of Greenwich’s most recognisable landmarks is the O2, which is one of London’s most popular music venues and has hosted acts from Billie Eilish to Ed Sheeran, and is where you’ll find a plethora of indoor and outdoor attractions like Mama Mia The Party and Up at The O2.
But if big concerts aren’t your thing, Greenwich is also home to its local Playhouse Theatre, which puts on a range of shows over the year from pantomimes to Shakespeare.

For locals vying to live in Greenwich, one of its key selling points is its convenient travel links to London.
Locals can get to London by DLR or train in under 30 minutes, to stations like Bank and London Bridge, or for anyone looking for a more scenic journey a Thames Clipper can get you to London Bridge or Westminster Pier in under an hour for £10.80.
When it comes to food and drink, Greenwich is packed full of restaurants and eateries, from popular chain restaurants like Bill’s and Pizza Express to independent restaurants like Bianco 43 and the River Gardens Café, which came highly recommended by Muddy Stilettos.
For shopping, Greenwich offers plenty in the way of independent shops and businesses, along with a wide variety of vendors at Greenwich Market, which is open daily from 10am until 5:30pm and is where you’ll find everything from vintage items to jewellery.

Over the past year, house prices in Greenwich averaged £563,414.
Most sales were flats, which sold for an average of £473,294, while terraced homes averaged £825,260 and semi-detached properties reached £1,152,929.
Overall, sold prices in Greenwich were seven per cent lower than the previous year and 11 per cent below the 2022 peak of £632,002.
