Overnight (October 10), Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has authorised a section 60 authority in the outlined area of Gorton and Reddish.
The Section 60 authority, which grants officers extended powers to stop and search individuals within the area, has been authorised following reports of a group of males attacking others with machetes and knives in the Ryder Brow area of Gorton, Manchester.
Officers responded to Ryder Brow Road and located a 17-year-old boy with ‘injuries consistent with a stabbing’.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, and police have confirmed he remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Natasha Feerick of GMP’s city centre division said: “We understand how concerning incidents like this can be for the local community, and we want to reassure residents that we are fully committed to tackling violent crime and keeping our streets safe.
“The Section 60 authority has been put in place to give our officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals in the area, helping us to prevent further violence and identify those responsible.
“An arrest has been made, and we are working hard to identify further suspects.
“Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area, both on foot and in patrol cars.
“If you have any concerns, our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.”

The Section 60 powers come under the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act and will run for 24 hours.
Having been authorised at 11.30pm on Friday 10 October 2025, it is set to expire at 11.30pm on Saturday 11 October 2025.
