Giada De Laurentiis Adds This Anti-Inflammatory Ingredient to Her Morning Oatmeal

Olive oil is a beloved staple in many kitchens and it’s no secret that the vibrant-hued oil packs in a ton of health benefits. Because it contains monounsaturated fats, regularly consuming olive oil can improve your heart and brain health, and reduce symptoms of inflammation. The ingredient is also an integral part of the Mediterranean diet, touted as one of the healthiest eating patterns around.

Some people have started working the oil into their morning routines by downing a whole shot every day, but Giada De Laurentiis just shared an easy way to incorporate it — and we think it’s a bit more palatable!

The celebrity chef took to Instagram to give her thoughts on the trend, wholeheartedly agreeing that olive oil isn’t just tasty, but packed with plenty of health benefits. Then she shared her favorite way to incorporate the oil into her morning routine: drizzling a bit of olive oil over her bowl of oatmeal. She also noted that she would happily pour some over a bowl of buckwheat cereal or a piece of toast, depending on what she’s in the mood for that morning.

Instagram viewers had mixed feelings about the concept, with one commenter sharing that their grandfather “took a spoonful every morning well into his 90s”. Another commenter was less enthusiastic, claiming that they ”could think of a million other ways” they’d rather incorporate the oil.

While it might feel a little outlandish to add the surprising ingredient to a piping hot bowl of oats, we think it’s definitely worth a try. Olive oil has a rich flavor profile that could play nicely with the texture, not to mention it would be easier than taking a shot!

If you need suggestions on how to incorporate it, you can try our Old-Fashioned Oatmeal, which has several different variations of toppings and flavors to pick from. Or you really lean into a savory oatmeal dish by making our Savory Oatmeal with Cheddar, Collards & Eggs—which includes olive oil—or our Sriracha, Egg & Avocado Overnight Oats. Either way, adding olive oil to your diet can be a great way to improve your health, no matter what time of day you use it.
