Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann non-committal on Manuel Neuer return

Former Bayern Munich boss and current German national team manager Julian Nagelsmann is not going to publicly declare a desire to have Manuel Neuer back on the squad.

””It’s not advisable to talk about all possible scenarios that could arise. In all the games since Manu retired, we haven’t had a goalkeeping problem. In football, things can always happen that require certain measures. As of today, that is not the case. I cannot predict what the future holds. I’m in contact with Manuel Neuer. But it’s not always just about football matches,” Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Nagelsmann’s comments are very telling if you know and understand the somewhat bitter history between the two men. The relationship soured when Nagelsmann sacked then-Bayern Munich goalkeeper coach Toni Tapalović, who was a close confidant of Neuer.

Some old wounds just stay open…
