German World Cup winner Thomas Muller is set for a switch to MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps following his departure from childhood club Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old forward is set to pen a two-year deal with the Vancouver-based side after his trophy laden stint with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The German superstar, who joined the FC Bayern academy as a 10-year-old in 2000, is the most capped player in club history with 750 appearances. He led the club to a record 13 Bundesliga titles, finishing with one last championship this past season. However, Bayern announced in April that they would not extend his lucrative contract for another season.

The World Cup-winner made his final appearance for his beloved Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga champions’ 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup, pulling the curtains on a trophy-laden crareer with the Bavarian heavyweights.

Muller’s departure from Bayern Munich, where he spent 25 years, is set to be a watershed moment towards the twilight phase of his illustrious career.

Vancouver are in discussions with FC Cincinnati regarding the Discovery Rights for Muller, as required by MLS for bringing in foreign footballers.

These rights allow a club to claim exclusive negotiation rights with a footballer who isn’t under contract with Major League Soccer or another team.

Muller, who is Germany’s most decorated player, alongside Toni Kroos, with 34 titles to his name, will look o add more to his incedible trophy cabinet before he hangs up his boots.

Vancouver have been one of the top MLS clubs this year and currently sit second in the Western Conference standings. Earlier this year, they reached the CONCACAF Champions Cup final.

Muller’s arrival could enhance Vancouver’s chances of serious contention for both the Western Conference title and the MLS Cup. Reports indicate he sought advice from former Germany teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, whose illustrious career concluded with the Chicago Fire.
