Gallery Oldham exhibition on links between UK and India

Indian Perspectives, which launches on Saturday, September 27, will feature over 100 different works by two artists, Tony Phillips and Jasmir Creed.

Tony Phillips is a painter and printmaker whose work has socially-engaging themes, focusing on colonialism and its aftermath. His work has featured in collections and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Jasmir Creed is a London-born artist, who works in oil paints to create pieces inspired by her Anglo-Indian heritage.

Some of the themes in her work include her own family history of migration, as well as ideas of belonging, alienation and identity.

She is a PhD candidate at University College London’s Slade School of Fine. She has exhibited in London, the North West and abroad in Chongqing, China, and Istanbul, Turkey.

Councillor Peter Dean, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “We are proud to welcome this inspiring exhibition to Gallery Oldham.

“Indian Perspectives is a celebration of the deep cultural ties between India and the UK and also a chance for us all to reflect on the stories, traditions and creativity that connect our communities. I would encourage everyone to come along and be part of this shared journey of discovery and celebration.”
