Announcing the decision last week, the high street chain said the decision was to thank staff for their work over one of the “most challenging years” for the chain.
In addition to closing on Christmas Day, Poundland also revealed that all stores will be closing for Boxing Day, Friday 26 December, and New Year’s Day, Thursday 1 January, to offer colleagues with a “proper festive break”.

Darren MacDonald, Country Manager UK at Poundland, said: “It’s no secret that 2025 has been one of our most challenging years, but the support and commitment from our colleagues has been nothing short of amazing – and I’m delighted we can renew our commitment to give them the time they deserve over the holidays.
“I know how much our colleagues are looking forward to making shopping in stores a magical experience this year— and we’re proud to support them with a proper festive break.”

Poundland’s retail director, Darren MacDonald, said: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.
“These special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across our wider network, will help us leave these locations with pride.
“And when our doors close in these locations, we’ll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”
