From transporting national treasures to giant pandas and millions of dollars worth of supercars, Hong Kong flag air cargo carrier is cashing in on its expertise to tap into the world’s growing demand for special shipments.
In an exclusive interview with the Post, Cathay Cargo director Tom Owen said the company’s logistic expertise ranged from transporting highly technical and complicated equipment to delicate cargo, including those bringing health benefits to society such as vaccines during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Owen said he found fulfilment in his role, ensuring the carrier’s cargo team of about 800 staff members delivered shipments safely, while helping to cement Hong Kong’s status as the world’s busiest air cargo hub.
“We believe in our vision statement: every shipment matters to the world,” he said. “Every person in Cathay Cargo has pride in doing that because every shipment matters … whether it’s a panda, an oil pipe or whether it’s vaccines or vegetables.
“They are important for people’s lives in Hong Kong and around the world.”
