Florian Wirtz wins German Player of the Year with Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise trailing in second

The 2024/25 season saw quite a few incredible performances in the Bundesliga, and the kicker Player of the Year award aims to recognize just that. The award takes into consideration both German and Bundesliga players alike, with Toni Kroos winning the award last year after receiving the most votes from sport journalists in Germany.

This year, Florian Wirtz clinched the prize with a staggering 191 votes. His show of skill and talent last season earned him a transfer to Liverpool and he now plays in the Premier League, but fans will sourly remember the Wirtz saga at Bayern Munich. The word staggering was used because the difference between him and second place was about 110 votes, as per the report captured by @iMiaSanMia. In second place came Bayern Munich’s own Michael Olise with 81 votes, meaning there wasn’t much of a debate as to who deserved it. Olise had an incredible season for the record champions, making a bigger impact than most ballers do at his age. Third place was Nick Woltemade, yet another failed (so far) Bayern chase, with 71 votes.

The awards have stirred up all sorts of controversy among Bayern Munich fans online, who claim that Olise was a better candidate by far and that Wirtz was simply stat-padding. What do you think? Who deserved it more? Let us know in the comments!
