Hong Kong and cities in China’s southern Guangdong province have reopened businesses, transportation services and schools after the world’s most powerful typhoon this year lashed the region.
Typhoon Ragasa brought Hong Kong to a standstill from Tuesday, after sweeping through the Philippines and Taiwan where it killed 14, before making landfall on the southern Chinese city of Yangjiang.
Flights resumed out of Hong Kong’s international airport on Thursday after a 36-hour suspension. Hong Kong’s Airport Authority said airlines would gradually resume flights, with all three runways operating simultaneously.
Authorities said they were urgently repairing collapsed roads, trying to clear more than 1,000 fallen trees and responding to about 85 cases of flooding.
In eastern Taiwan, rescuers continue to search for missing people. At least 22 people remain missing and 54 have been injured according to the National Fire Agency.
