First day of school brings new apps and programs to RSU 29

HOULTON, Maine (WAGM) – Summer break has ended, and students across southern Aroostook are heading back to school today.

For districts that don’t follow the harvest break schedule, like RSU 29 in Houlton and MSAD 70 in Hodgdon, classes are just now starting. Teachers, however, started a little earlier to prepare for another new year.

“Staff came back on Friday, the 22nd, for opening meetings, where we rolled out new information about safety, technology, and a new communication plan for parents. That takes time as teachers are also getting classrooms ready and making sure students are rostered in classrooms,” says RSU 29 Superintendent Joe Fagnant.

Some of the new resources being introduced this year for parents and for staff are:

Reach My Teach: Let’s teachers communicate with parents via phone, text, and email.

Bus Right: Map out bus routes efficiently. Eventually, parents will be able to get an app and use the program to track their child’s bus in real time.

Branching Minds: A program for the staff that puts all test data and information into one location.
